Company:  Burrell Communications Group

233 N. Michigan, Chicago          35,000 Square Feet

Client Overview:  Burrell Communications is one of the nation’s leading full-service marketing communications companies. Their business is driven by understanding and motivating consumer behavior in multi-cultural and urban markets. The agency’s client roster includes McDonald's, Procter & Gamble, Toyota and General Mills.

Client Ojective: Priorities for their relocation project were to reinforce the dynamic of their organization within their new office environment. Therefore space initiatives included:

» A visual experience to communicate brand, culture and properly showcase Burrell’s exceptional advertising expertise

» Capture the feeling of creativity and energy within their space to enhance recruiting and retention of top talent/staff

Client Benefits:

» Construction Cost Savings: Through value engineering and effective price negotiation strategies, cost savings of 17% were successfully realized on construction.

» Furniture Purchase at 28 % Savings: Our team  negotiated purchase of existing furniture systems, which provided a cost savings of approximately $ 400,000 or 28%. The furniture design became a key component in communicating Burrell’s urban and cultural innovation.

» Branding with Value: The architect’s original design for brand recognition called for displaying Burrell’s print advertising on a complexly constructed mural in the reception area. However, through value engineering of construction costs, the team determined the proposed mural would create a significant increase in the overall project budget. Therefore, a second round of planning options successfully incorporated new designs to reinforce brand, while providing cost savings of approximately $175,000. The finalized scope of work included: reception area glass panels running Burrell’s award winning commercials, a photographic mosaic wall and silk screening of Burrell’s print ads on the end panels of furniture workstations. Today, Burrell’s office design provides both clients and staff with a visual experience which demonstrates the agency’s creative capabilities in advertising.

Conclusion:  TI Management provided a process which successfully answered the objectives set out in our project relocation goals. This relocation project was nominated for a 2005 AIA Interior Design Excellence Award.
